- It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Stephane Bressan of the National University of Singapore, the PC co-chair of DEXA2025, an esteemed member of our academic community and an influential figure in the field of Database.
Professor Bressan dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the advancement of research. His groundbreaking work in the fields of the integration and the management of disparate information not only shaped the direction of Database but also inspired countless students, colleagues, and collaborators around the world. His contributions have left a lasting mark on both academia and society.
Beyond his research, Professor Bressan was a cornerstone of iiWAS and DEXA conferences, serving as a passionate advocate for the exchange of ideas and collaboration. His presence, whether presenting cutting-edge findings or fostering discussions, elevated every gathering he attended.

He may no longer be with us, but his contributions and spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
Over three decades ago, Prof. Dr. Roland Wagner and Prof. Dr. A Min Tjoa recognized the need for an international platform to address the rapidly growing fields of Databases and Expert Systems Applications. This vision gave birth to DEXA, a conference that began as a small gathering of innovative minds in Austria. Today, DEXA has evolved into a global event, attracting more than 5,000 participants—including distinguished speakers, researchers, developers, and industry experts—from around the world.
DEXA Organization
DEXA is organized by the DEXA Society, a non-profit association dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of information technology. In 2019, the leadership of DEXA transitioned to a collaboration between the Web Applications Society (@WAS), the Institute of Telecooperation at Johannes Kepler University Linz, and the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH). This new partnership continues to uphold the founding vision, bringing cutting-edge research and technological advancements to the forefront.
